  • sure! here's what you need to know
  • can you teach me more about whats under the earths surface
  • the first thing you need to know is convection. convection is when air heats up and rises. and when it cools, it sinks back to the heat sorce. those mountains over there were created by rising magma, and somewhere else older earth sank back into the earth to becone magma again.
  • correct!
  • whoa! those mountains are huge! must have taken a long time to create.
  • this volcano has convection when magma comes out the top and cools at the bottom.
  • whoa, i never thought about that. what about seafloor spreading? does that have convection?
  • these underwater mountains were created by convection and seafloor spreading. like the mountains we saw earlier, magma is pushed out of the ground to make mountains and old earth sinks into the ground to become magma again.
  • cool! what else?
  • the magma around us was heated up by the core and pushed up through the crust to create new earth.
