With technological developments, such as satellites that use infrared scans and eco-drones, scientists have been able to add to existing ground data collection methods and venture further into these difficult to access areas of the Earth that are too hot or too cold.
Sure, no problem!
Wow! You really know a lot. Thanks so much for telling me about the extreme cold weather
The coldest place in the world with a record lowest temperature of -91°C (133.6°F) is the Antarctic ice sheet. In the town of Oymyakon, Russia, which has a population of around 500 people, the average daily temperature in January has been recorded as -46°C!
At Russia’s Vostok ice station is a vast lake buried 4km below the ice. This is a remote, dangerous and rarely visited place. Measuring temperatures in these extreme locations is difficult. But scientists, are keen to find out how cold it can get, by using data collected from ice stations and satellites to find out more about weather patterns.
Human beings live in some very cold places on Earth. Life is tough in the coldest regions of Russia, Canada, Greenland, Mongolia and thestate of Alaska in USA.
Harsh, dark winters with long periods where the temperatureremains well below 0°C are part of life for inhabitants of towns in these countries.
