The Great Depression was a horrible time in American history. The depression started in 1929 when the stock market crashed. The economy was horrible and people had no jobs which made almost every one poor.

In 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected president. He wanted to help America in the Great Depression.
Roosevelt wanted the bring change to America. He started the New Deal, which was a series of programs designed the help Americans. The New Deal did things like provide new jobs, and provide farmers with help to produce food.
FDR hated seeing America is its people suffering. He launched a second New Deal, but this time more aggressive. His main act was to provide unemployed people a chance to have a job.

People in Alabama also were effected by the Great Depression. Some of the New Deal acts helped to rebuild some of Tuscaloosa's parks, and also public gathering places like the theatre.

The New Deal made a huge impact on America and even a small town like Tuscaloosa. Without FDR America would have gone even further downhill in the Great Depression. The New Deal changed many people's lives.
