There are many interesting Incan cities, sites, religious practices, and leaders that students could research for a poster project. This poster focuses on the famous Incan city of Machu Picchu! Students will research this fascinating city and find at least four facts to fill in the bubbles. Then they can use the artwork provided to create a scene! Their finished posters could be presented digitally, printed out to add to a portfolio or hung around the room.
There are many poster templates to pick from if students wish to start with a different layout or complete their poster on a different topic. Teachers can add multiple templates to the example to provide some structure, or direct students to the template page to pick for themselves. They can also edit the existing template and add or remove art as desired for different scaffolding.

Begin by introducing students to the objectives of the research. Teachers can also provide basic guidelines to students for the research. For instance, what should be their first step and what should be the outcome of that activity? Having some flexibility with guidance will yield the best outcomes.
Explain to the students that the city they will be performing research on comes from an old civilization known as the Incan Civilization. Assess the prior knowledge of students and ask them what they know about Peru and if they have ever heard anything about Machu Picchu.
Divide the class into groups of 3-4 students. Ask the students to work with each other and discuss their areas of interest in this research. Encourage the students to be cooperative with each other and share their knowledge and ideas with each other to make this a successful research.
Since Machu Picchu is a city with a lot of history and many other aspects to uncover, students can divide the topics of research into groups. For instance, one group can conduct research on the culture of the city, another one can base their project on clothes and jewelry. Students can also draw comparisons and analyze the city before and after the decline of the Incan Civilization.
After students are done with their research, ask them to compile all their main points in an interesting way such as a poster or an art gallery, and create a venue (such as a classroom presentation or an online gallery) where students may share their study on Machu Picchu if possible.
Key facts about the Inca civilization, such as its history, culture, architecture, accomplishments, and any other pertinent information, should be included in your poster. Make use of text, pictures, graphs, and other visuals. Students can even make their own drawings or paintings to add to the poster. If possible, students can also create a gallery for 3D objects related to the city such as re-creating their clothes, jewelry, or the weapons they used.
In the Andes Mountains of Peru, Machu Picchu is located at a height of around 2,430 meters (7,970 feet) above sea level. The Incas were accomplished farmers. To enhance agricultural output in the hilly environment, the terraced fields at Machu Picchu were cleverly created by these farmers. There are many other interesting facts about this city that the students can explore.
