Activity Overview
Movie posters are a fun way for students to boil down the most important aspects of a novel. After reading Freak the Mighty, students will create a movie poster that showcases the setting, characters and a chosen scene or overarching themes of the story. Students can include the title and author of the book, a catchy tagline, and a "critic's review" informing the audience why they should go to see the movie and briefly describing the compelling story.
To make this a class assignment, consider giving each student a different chapter or scene to focus on. When students complete their posters, they can be printed out and hung in the classroom. Students should be prepared to present on the choices they made during the creation process.

Objective: Create a movie poster for the book Freak the Mighty.

How To Help Students Create a Short Video on “Freak The Mighty”
Distribute Tasks
First, get some volunteers to participate in the activity and briefly explain the objectives and goals of the project and how the students can achieve them. Make a detailed list of the tasks that are required for this short project and ask the students to make a team and distribute these tasks among themselves. For instance, the filming crew, the writing crew, the acting crew and the editing crew are the few teams that the students need to make.
Highlight the Importance of a Good Script
The dialogue, narration, or captions for each group's or person's video should be outlined in a script. The script must represent the theme or issue that has been selected and be well-organized. Ask the students to carefully write the script so that it maintains the original perspective of the author but at the same time delivers something interesting.
Encourage Storyboard Creation
Ask students to make a visual storyboard that describes the order of the shots, scenarios, and important images they intend to include in their film. This facilitates planning and organizing. Students will also be able to track their progress with the help of this storyboard.
Get Filming Equipment
Give or explain to the students how to utilize recording tools such as cell phones, cameras, or tablets. Make sure they can use tripods if necessary. Teach the class how to use the editing program to upload and arrange their photographs, audio, and video clips.
Structure and Present
Once the video has been filmed and edited, students should structure it and present it in front of the whole class. Teachers can also hold a competition to give out the best video awards to the top three groups.
