Testo Storyboard

  • It's a boy named Ulric. Born in 1974, Cape Town South Africa. A unusual name that, I believe, made me stronger and unique.
  • My father was a poultry farmer for corporate businesses in South Africa. As a family we moved a lot from farm to farm, school to school. I attended 7 schools and this gave me experience in interacting with new people. It also gave me insights to rural farmers and the challenges they face
  • I attended the University of Pretoria and after 3 months realized the university culture was not in line with my beliefs. It was my first failure and the first time I needed to pick up the pieces and move on. And move on I did!
  • I have always been involved in sports and played field hockey at high levels. I have always been sociable and was part of the Zimbabwe Society at university, even though not Zimbabwean.
  • I graduated from Rhodes University with a science degree. It was an open minded university that shaped the rest of my perspective. Sadly my parents divorced during my last years of studies
  • I have always worked in the poultry industry with farm folk. I traveled extensively into other African countries and that is where my passion grew in terms of the ability to have an impact with emerging farmers through poultry.
  • In 2002 I was married and had my son had been born, Aidan. Followed in 2004 by Megan. I have moved to Zambia permanently and spend my time developing the poultry industry and poultry farmers. I met my mentor in business: John Peace
  • 2013 was the start of major self reflection. It was the year I got divorced and moved back to South Africa to be near my children. It was a time I joined the city corporate world and the time I realized this was not my passion. Not a happy time but a time of personal growth
  • I met and Issabella Kerklaan in 2014. She is from the Netherlands and opened my mind to a new way of living. Of being true to myself. She remains my mentor and confidant. We are now married.
  • The dawn sets in South Africa and the sun rises on Ethiopia in 2016
  • I am back to doing what I enjoy. Developing poultry farmers and in the agricultural field in a corporate role with the focus on impact and farmer development.
  • I remain active and started and lead a mountain biking group through the mountains of Ethiopia.
  • I am using my passion and knowledge in poultry to help farmers, creating jobs, providing nutrition and most of all I am at peace with myself through immense job satisfaction. A career highlight was meeting the great Kofi Annan and having the opportunity to describe what we do in Ethiopia to him.
  • My journey within a social enterprise is ongoing and I am continually learning and experiencing heightened personal fulfillment. My mentors along the journey include my wife, my father, my mother, my children, Nelson Mandela, John Peace, my work colleagues throughout my career and the farmers I have worked with. My wish is to continue increasing the social impact that poultry can have within rural farming communities and want to share my knowledge with more like minded enterprises.
