  • Well if I had to sum it down to one thing it would most likely be the system I devised which led to thousands of bacteria species to be investigated. This is called the Gram stain

  • I studied at the University of Copenhagen and was an assistant to a zoologist which introduced me to the interest in the use of microscopes
  • I was working with a German pathologist and a microbiologist in Berlin during the 1800's and devised the technique then
  • How and when did you discover the Gram stain technique?
  • What are the two different classifications you give the bacteria?
  • There is Gram positive and Gram negative. Positive is detected when the cells retain the color of the stain and negative is when they don't seem to be stained and usually appear red
  • My initial work was the study of the human red blood cells and I taught pharmacology
  • What was your initial work for? 
  • Although my technique wasn't perfect and had some defective issues that occurred from the slightest issue like overheat was still very helpful and a game changer for bacteria classification
  • Was it perfect or did it have any flaws?
