  • Louis XIV was the latest of many kings to hold absolute power, able do whatever they wanted at their whims.

  • Marie Antoinette was known for excessively spending France's wealth, living in luxury while the people starved.
  • Look at my new house! Isn't it wonderful!
  • On June 20th, 1989, after Louis XIV flatly refused to have a fair vote, and when the revolutionary members 3rd estate protested, he kicked them out. In response, after relocating to a nearby tennis court the radical thinkers drafted the Tennis Court Oath, where they promised to never stop fighting for justice or equal rights.

  • On July 14th, 1989, many rioters stormed the Bastille after hearing rumors that Louis XIV would not keep his word. Although there were only seven inmates in the prison ar the time, it was seen as a symbol of absolutism, and was destroyed soon afterwards
  • Down with Tyranny! Liberty, fraternity, and equality!
  • The king and queen were imprisoned, before being executed to prevent the possibility of the return of the monarchy.

  • Many European absolutist rulers feared that revolution would spread to them, and unwilling to lose their power, they invaded France to try and stop the problem before it began.
  • How about we team up to stop France from spreading these ideas so that be won't be overthrown and killed?
