- reading note: Lina and Jonas's mother telling them to pack their bags because the soviet police are arresting people. This is important because it kicks off the book and shows how young and innocent they all are.

- Reading Note: In between shades of grey the character, Lina faces the trouble of being taken from her home and loosing her mom. the Character deals with this pain by painting her story for other to find in the future.

- Reading note: lina and her family are just now figuring out how bad the situation is and how their lives mean nothing to the soldiers. Evidence:"have you ever wondered what a human life costs, well that day my brother's was worth a pocket watch"
- Reading Note: when Lina's mom found out that her husband has died she fell apart because he was the only thing giving her hope that they would get out.
- I'm so sorry, we just got word that your husband has died in the prison camp.

- Reading note: andrius and lina's connection grows throughout the book because they have expirieced the same things and grow to understand each other.
- Reading Note: when the doctor came to help the camp it gave the people hope that their stories would be shared and they would be free
