- The 10 Commandments
- These are the ten commandments. The people need to follow these rules.
- God promise Abraham, a man without a child, many descendants and that they would be a great nation. He also promised him land and that the whole world is blessed through him.Abraham and Sara have a son and called him Isaacwhich means laughter. Isaac had a child called Jacob.
- Judges
- Please help us God.
- In Egypt the Israelites, Abrahams descendants, are feared by Pharaoh. Pharaoh decided that the only way to save them from the Israelites is to make them slaves.God then sends a man named Moses to free the Israelites. He then talks to Pharaoh but he refuses to let the Israelites go. God sends 10 plagues on Egypt and finally the Pharaoh lets them go.
- Kings
- God gave Moses the 10 commandments on Mount Sinai. These are the laws that gods people the Israelites follow and obey. They are 1: Don't worship any other god 2: Don't make fake idols 3:Don't misuse Gods name 4:Sunday (the Sabbath day) belongs to God 5: Respect your parents 6:Do not murder 7: Do not cheat in marriage 8:Don't steal 9: Don't lie 10: Don't want what others have
- Exile
- Where are going?
- The Israelites arrived at the promised land but they are bad at waiting. The start worshiping false idols of their neighbours and do a lot of sinful things. God saw this and let other nations raid and steal crops and possessions. They call out to God for help and God sends them judges. The judges save them from the nations and for a while the people turn back to god and theirs peace. When the Judge dies they turn to their evil ways again. This is cycle is repeated for a long time.
- The people asked for a king. God made a promise to one of the kings, David that one of his descendants will rule forever. One day a descendent from king David's line will bring the promised blessing to the world and be called 'the Messiah' and 'Christ'.
- Most of the kings turned away from God after David and lead them in worshiping unholy idols and gods. God sent prophets to tell them to turn back to God and warned them that if they don't they will be in exile from the promised land and be destroyed. The people didn't listen and God allowed the nation of Babylon and Assyria to take them out from the land and be destroyed.
