  • Hey! I'm a cell, and today I'll be walking you through the cell cycle and mitosis.
  • There are many stages of cell division, the first of which is interphase.
  • Centriole
  • Interphase is made of three smaller phases. G1, S and G2. During G1, the cell grows and prepares for DNA replication. During the S phase, the Cell duplicates DNA, and during the final part of interphase, or G2, the cell prepares for division.
  • Centriole
  • Now that interphase is over, it's time to begin the M phase. There are two parts of the M stage. Mitosis and cytokinesis. There are four stages of mitosis :Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase .
  • Centriole
  • Chromatin
  • During prophase, the first and longest phase of mitosis, chromatin condenses into chromosomes, and the nuclear envelope breaks down. In animal cells, centrioles move towards opposite sides of the cell.
  • Condense
  • Chromosomes
  • The next phase is metaphase. During metaphase the chromosomes line up on the equator of the cell and spindle fibers, formed by the centrioles, attach to them.
  • Centriole
  • The third phase is anaphase. This is the shortest phase because all that happens is the sister chromatids separate and the daughter chromosomes are pulled to opposite ends of the cell by the centrioles.
