- William Clark had served with Lewis in the regular Army after he had joined the state militia in Kentucky. Clark held a commission as lieutenant of infantry under President George Washington.

- Tomas jefferson knew that the Voyage of discovery would be the most challenging expeditions that had every happened in the United States. Lewis and Clark and their team member had got sent out to explore the newest areas of the United States.

- Sacagawea had help lewis and Clark´s men obtain essential supplies and horses, identified edible plants and herbs, and prevented hostile relations with other tribes simply by being with the group—all while carrying her newborn baby on her back.

- The men did not bring much food along. They had to hunt and forage for their meals. One journal entry describes catching three very large catfish. They also caught turkeys, geese, beaver, and deer. During the summer, finding food was easy. Later in the expedition, the men often went hungry.
