Oh no, the red flag is up so I can't go in the river. I wonder why there is a red flag. It rained, well that's not a good enough reason for me. I am going to research and see what happened.

There is gross bacteria in the water that makes it dangerous to be in the water. This gross bacteria comes from CSOs and Stormwater runoff. When it rains a lot the rain washes pollutants, poop gasoline and other nasty stuff into the river. When it doesn't rain the river becomes shallow and hotter.
When this happens nutrients are concentrated and cyanobacteria or E. Coli bloom. Due to combined sewage overflow or CSOs the rivers health declines by 20% which means it is less safe for humans and the animals that make up the rivers ecosystem. That is why right after and for a few days after it rains heavily or theres a drought you can't go in the river and they put up a red flag

Wow I learned so much! I hope those poor animals in the river are okay. I am going to do my best at helping in reducing CSOs. I want to be a scientist when I am older.
