Testo Storyboard

  • Alright class. Pull out your novels, we are doing silent reading.
  • Aw man...not this again.
  • I...I can't read any of this!I'm so stupid...
  • Haha look at Alex! He doesn't even know how to read!
  • How did he even make it out of preschool?
  • Thank you for seeing me. It seems your son, Alex, has been having difficulties when it comes to reading. Have you ever noticed this?
  • No, never. We just assumed he disliked reading and that he was lazy. However, his father does have dyslexia.
  • That is a very common misconception. People believe children with dyslexia are just lazy or unmotivated. This is completely untrue.
  • So are you saying I have a dyslexic child?
  • It's a possibility, seeing that it can be a heritable trait. Further, I recommend you use person-first language when referring to Alex's dyslexia. We do not want to define Alex by his potential disability.
  • Okay, thank you for the information Mrs. Thompson. We will check with a doctor.
  • One week later...
  • Hello Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs. I'm Dr. Johnson. We have your son's results. After communicating with Mrs. Thompson and running Alex through reading and skill tests, we have diagnosed your son with dyslexia.
  • So what does this mean for our son!?
  • Alongside myself, Alex's teachers, and the two of you, we will develop what is known as an Individualized Education Plan to make sure Alex's needs are met efficiently and appropriately.
  • Further, it is important we boost Alex's self-confidence as not only does he dread reading and believe he is not capable of it, but Mrs. Thompson is aware of some of the teasing Alex gets at school for his reading ability.
  • Thanks for all of your help Doctor Johnson.
  • Later that evening...
  • I can't believe I have dyslexia...now I'll never be able to read like everyone else.
  • The next day at school...
  • Hey-ya there Alex! I'm Mr. Powers and I'm a teacher who specializes in helping kids just like you! I have a bunch of activities for us to get started on, are you ready?
  • I...I guess.
  • Alrighty then, let's get down to business...
  • Two weeks later...
  • Great job Alex! You have improved so much in just two weeks! This is what hard work and practice can do!
  • I'm really starting to get better at this stuff...
  • Good job kiddo. Before you know it, you'll be the best reader in the Jacobs family!
  • Alex, we just got off the phone with Mr. Powers. He says you have been doing amazing. We're so proud of you!
  • Woah...Mom and Dad are really proud of me. I can do this!
  • The next night...
  • Alex! Time for dinner!
  • I'll be there in just a second!
  • 3 months later...
  • Good morning boys and girls! Today you will all be giving a presentation on the novel you have been reading the past few months.
  • Now then, would anybody like to go first?
  • I'll go first Mrs. Thompson!
  • I'm not sure if I can even watch this train-wreck happen!
  • Oh man, here comes the comedy show!
  • 3 months later...
  • Good morning boys and girls! Today you will all be giving a presentation on the novel you have been reading the past few months.
  • Now then, would anybody like to go first?
  • I'll show them I'm more than just my dyslexia...
  • Time to put all my hard work and practice to use!
  • ...and that is why everybody deserves to have a second chance. Thank you for listening.
  • Did...did they not like it???
  • ...
  • Good job Alex!
  • Clap! Clap! Clap!
  • Wonderful job Alex! You have come very far!
  • That was awesome! Way to go!
  • THE END
