Testo Storyboard

  • Hey, Son, Do you want to learn about the New York colony? It would be fun to learn since we will take a trip there soon.
  • Sure, Dad
  • In 1625, Peter Minuit of the Dutch West India Company bought land from local Indians. Then in 1644, the Dutch surrendered the colony to the English.
  • Was there a gory war?
  • I didn't live back then, Son. I read, though, the Dutch surrendered. Citizens were unwilling to fight.
  • Oh, what else do you know about New York,Dad?
  • In 1664, King James let the people govern themselves. In 1685, New York became a royal colony. Then, the king ruled.
  • I would like to live back then when the people ruled.
  • They had natural resources like farm land, coal, furs, timber and iron. It was known as for its major crop: wheat. The colony exported iron and manufactured kitchen items such as kettles. Here's a picture of a kettle.
  • People could worship the way the wanted to. Catholics, Jews, Lutherans, and Quakers worshipped in the colony.
