- Human dignity is an extremely important concept. Every human life is something sacred and a gift from God and the dignity of every person in the world must be respected.
- As a result of humans being created in the image and likeness of God, we have the instinct and obligation to treat other people with dignity and kindness. This is what Jesus taught us to do.
- But, dignity is not practiced everywhere and to everyone at the same extent. Some peopledo not have the same privileges and opportunities that we are lucky enough to have in Australia.
- Some people may not have access to fresh water, food to eat, an education, a stable money source, power and electricity, a toilet, or a safe and clean home to live in.
- There are many people in Brazil who are currently living in favelas or slums. The land that the favelas are located on is owned by the Government, meaning that residents can be kicked out of their house at any time
- Caritas are helping these people in many different ways. One of these ways is by helping the favela residents make an income from their strengths, giving them necessities such as food and water, and convincing the government to give them ownership of the land.
