- Do you think we should have homework?

- Actually I do. Homework gives us a way to remember what we've learned and practice work outside of school.
- I disagree. Homework takes up too much time outside of school and gets in the way of other after school activity's like sports.
- One reason we should have homework is because it helps teachers determine how well students are understanding the lessons. If a student comes in with their homework done wrong it might be a sign that they don't know how to do the curriculum.
- Okay, but on the other hand that's what tests are for. If a teacher wanted to see if we understand the curriculum they could just give us a test during school instead of having us do extra work after school.
- Fine, but homework doesn't just give kids stress and anxiety. Homework can teach kids to be more independent when doing any work and teach them to be responsible by turning it in on time and getting it done. By the way both of these will help in the future like when your trying to get a good job.
- In addition, we already have 7 - 8 hours of school 5 days a week, and some kids get stress and anxiety from too much school work.
- Okay, but kids should make time for homework at least twice a week. If a kid is not doing their homework they might become behind in their class or not remember what they've been learning.
- Moving on, for kids who are busy after school, homework can lead to them not getting enough sleep. For example most kids, like me, have sports after school. I go from school straight to track or swim practice and I don't get home till 8 or 9.Then I have to start my homework which I normally finish at 10 - 11 so I only get 7 - 8 hours of sleep. Which isn't enough for me.
- Yeah, I'm starting to agree with you that we shouldn't have homework, but maybe it would be good to have it once or twice a week.
- You have some good reasons why we should have homework, but I still believe we should not have homework.
