- Rocco Corresca lived in an orphanage when he was a kid. Until one day a man named came by and said he was Rocco's grandfather and he would take him home now because he had finally gotten some money.
- When Rocco got to Tony's place there were some other kids living there, who Tony said were his brothers. The place wasn't nice at all, and Tony told them to rob and trick people to make money, even though Rocco had learned at the orphanage that it was wrong.
- One day Rocco got tired of doing those bad things, then he decided to run away. One of his brothers decided to go with him. They found a fisherman who took care of them for five years.
- One day the fisherman said he couldn't pay for their work anymore, and they had to find a new place. So they met this man who made a lot of money in America, and they decided to go there too. The man said they could come with him and that he would take care of them
- When they got to america they started to work for the man who brought them in, because he said if they didn't do it they would be arrested. But one day they got tired of that too and ran away again looking for a job
- Rocco and Francisco then met a guy called Michael, who was a shoe shiner and taught them all he knew about being a bootblack. Then they started their own business and began to make money
