The Slave Breaker
When Frederick Douglass was 16 years old, he was rented out to a nearby farmer for one year. Edward Covey.

Covey would come out in the evening ready to urge the slaves with his words. Frequently with the whip.
KEEP WORKING!!!!
On one of the hottest days, Douglass is so broken down and tired he collapses. To avoid punishment he runs off and hides in the woods.
I am broken down and tired, I can't work anymore. I have to hide.
WHERE IS HE!!!
Douglass tags along and stays with another fellow slave, he eventually has to go back, But before Douglass leaves is is handed a map of a root through the woods.
Douglass you have to go back. But here! Before you leave take this root.
Douglass and Covey fight , and Douglass wins! He starts to feel hopeful about the future again because he stood up for himself.
WOW! I WON! Not only against Covey, but against my enslavement.
