Hey there! Want to know the history of our lovely state Texas? Well you've come to the right place. In 1519, Alonso Álvarez de Pineda, a Spanish explorer, discovered our state of Texas. He was a map maker who created one of the first maps of the United States, and featured the coast of Texas and the Gulf of Mexico in that map as well. Texas was full of Native Americans like us at the time.

In 1718, the Spanish colonized Texas, and founded the modern day city of San Antonio. The historic fortress of San Antonio de Valero was also built that year. The fortress was held by the Mexican army, which renamed the fortress to Alamo. The purpose of this was to convert local Native Americans into Christianity. To accomplish this, several churches like this have been built.

The Mexican War of Independence lasted from 1810-1821 where Mexico finally gained independence from Spain, who had been ruling over them for almost three centuries. Since Texas was a part of Mexican Spain, it became a part of the independent country of Mexico.
