Testo Storyboard

  • Hey Gina, as you are our Physical Education teacher, I thought it best to find out about play within the curriculum from you.
  • Jane, I would be happy to share my knowledge with you. Play is the most important activity for the development of a child. According to Van Oers and Duijkers (2013), the use of play based curriculum is 'life like' teaching, it is formed from the children's interest as well as goals set by the teacher as they develop holistically.
  • I'm guessing then, that you have even more information on play as it relates to its importance within the curriculum.
  • All abord the inside train. It is time to wash our hands and get some lunch. Let's go children.
  • Of course I do. I will share a bit more with you and then we can head inside as it will soon be lunch time.Play is not just about physical activities. According to Ashiabi (2007), it engages the child actively with the development of their imagination and creative ability.
  • Let us not forget that play within a curriculum would also nurture a child's socialization skills. As children play, they learn how to share, make decisions and work with each other in groups (Essa,2011).
  • Do you think there are educators who believe play has no place on a curriculum?
  • There just might be some who think play should be excluded from the curriculum. According to Ortlieb (2010), Information which is subject related and taught through play has no way to show that the child has grasp the concept.
  • No way to show if the child has grasped the concept ?I must find Carol and come up with an idea, to see how to further promote play in the classroom.
  • Let's visit my classroom to see how best we can brainstorm ideas.
  • Carol, after speaking to Gina I must say this thought of how I can incorporate play into my lessons, so that I promote play has me ready to take any suggestions.
  • Children learn by doing, this makes them concrete learners (UNICEF, 2018). Using play to teach concepts while integrating manipulatives may be a great way to start.
  • Well Carol, these are just a few of my manipulatives in which I use.
  • The first thing we can do to is to sort all your manipulatives and set up your classroom into learning centers. According to Essa (2011), the space in a classroom can be arranged into leaning centers. The use of materials and manipulatives would be placed in these areas. Learning centers can include music, dramatic play and blocks (Essa,2011).
