Ten-year-old August, the main character of, "Wonder," was born with a horrifying face. He is starting fifth grade, and his parents are convincing him to go to a real school instead of being homeschooled.
I have a question...um. What exactly is a homeroom? Is that like a subject?
My name is Summer by the way, what's yours?
A lot of the students avoid Auggie and even though it makes him upset, he enjoys learning. He always does well in school, and he becomes friends with Summer and Jack.
It's Halloween and Auggie over hears his "friend" Jack talking bad about him, so Auggie starts crying and tells the teacher that he's sick so he could go home.
I'm just friends with him because I feel bad for him.
His sister Via is trying to solve her own problems. She lost all of the friends she had in middle school and acts like she has a ride home to avoid her old friend Miranda. She ends up getting a boyfriend and meeting new people to hang out with.
"Hey Miranda, you don't have to take me home my mom will pick me up."
"I can't believe Jack is friends with Auggie. We should mess with them.
Jack figures out why Auggie was upset with him and he realized that he lost a friend that he really cared about. When they make up, Jack begins to get made fun of too.
Auggie and the other people in his grade go on a retreat where he gets bullied and people that once hated him begin to stand up for him.
Guys get away from Auggie. Go back to where you came from and stop bothering him.
When they get back from the retreat, everyone in school hears about this horrible incident and all of the students begin to get along with each other.
Auggie begins to have many friends in school and people start learning how amazing his personality is. He gets to enjoy his learning and his new friends.
Via and Miranda become friends again due to a school play and her and Auggie also become close again. She begins to solve her problems and figure out how to survive high school.
Auggie and the rest of the fifth grade class celebrate the school year coming to an end and the transition to a new one. They are finally beginning to grow up and understand the value of kindness
Kindness is brought to the schools attention by the principal when he gives a speech telling students how important it is to help others.
And this very important award goes to... August!
Then finally Auggie is called up and achieves a very important award. Everyone cheers him on and is incredibly happy to congratulate him. Later his moms tells August that he is in fact a "Wonder."
Auggie if anybody deserves this award it would be you, you have made our school a better place.
