  • Stella cannot let people in her neighborhood know that she is passing for white. In chapter 7, she was worried that the Walkers would tell everyone that she was passing for white. Brit Bennet says, " And now a colored family moving across the street. Would they see her for what she was? Or rather, what she wasn't"?(Bennett 149). Stella was now worried that her life would be ruined if her neighborhood knew she was black.

  • Stella thinks about just walking away from the life she created. In chapter 9, Brit Bennett writes, "She'd created a new life with a man who could never know her, but how could she walk away from it now?"(Bennett 197). Stella always wondered whether this fake life she created was worth it or not.

  • Stella has a bad effect on people. In chapter 7, Stella calls the Walkers the N word straight to her daughters face and says she shouldn't play with them. Brit Bennett writes, " You know what she said to Cindy? Well, the girls were playing some game and Kennedy was losing so she said, ' I don't want to play with a N*****)(Bennett 198-199). This shows that the racism she displayed backfired her only good friendship she had,
