- A prince and his servant were travelling the world. They took shelter in the woods. The owner of the house was a witch. She tried to poison them, but the cup burst and poisoned their horse. The raven who ate the eyes of the horse died from the poison too.

- The prince travelled to another town. His servant asked the innkeeper to cook the raven. Thieves attacked the Prince, stole their food and they were also poisoned.
- They tried to kill us but the poison was strong.
- One day they came to a town, a princess said she would marry any man who could ask her a riddle she couldn't solve.
- One killed none, but still killed twelve. What is it?
- If I solve the riddle in 3 days, your head will be cut-off. Nine others have tried.
- A raven ate the flesh of a horse that was poisoned, and died itself. Twelve murderers ate a stew made from the raven and died.
- The princess had her servants visit the prince when he was asleep. Lastly ,she came to ask him the answer... thinking he was asleep. He took her gown.
- What is it?
- I have solved the riddle.
- The prince had his servant bring the robe to prove the princess was lying. The riddle masters agreed.
- The princess came into my room when she thought I was asleep, and asked me the answer. She would never have guessed it otherwise.
- Have this robe embroidered in gold and silver your highness for it will be your wedding gown. The young man has won.
- Have you any proof?..
- The prince married the princess. and they lived happily.
- I will marry you.
