  • Opening Image
  • Inciting Incident
  • Rising Action
  • Officer Samuel Scott and his coworker, Officer Arthur Knox, pursue a robber's truck in a high-speed chase. Sam's ability to predict the near future comes on, jeopardizing the chase. At a t-junction, he gets the feeling a speeding car is around the bend. He doesn't stop the car until Arthur says something, but by then it is too late. They crash.

  • Plagued with guilt over Arthur's death, Sam's parents advise he takes the summer off and stay with his twin sister, Wendy, in her small townhouse in the sleepy town of Seltsam, Georgia. He reluctantly agrees, thinking it will, indeed, be good for him. When he wakes up in the morning in Wendy's house, he is startled by the sight of strange beings outside his bedroom window. Seltsam is not a normal town.
  • Falling Action
  • At Devil'd Eggs, the town's breakfast and bar, Sam overhears Quentin and some other folk talking of a man named Johnny Bonemarrow, a man who is cursed to only do bad things. He is a string of bad luck and always comes to town every year during the summer to destroy Seltsam and bestow upon it endless bad luck. He was exiled from Seltsam, but always comes back with a burning hatred.
  • Resolution
  • When being close to the hearth of the town, Sam's powers grow. Johnny comes to town and, as Seltsam doesn't get many visitors, is alarmed that another person has come and knows of Seltsam. The bad luck begins. Sam gets horrible (yet fake) visions that Arthur will kill him out of vengeance. The town tries to get Johnny to leave, but to no avail. Sam, overwhelmed by the visions, leaves Seltsam.
  • Sam reflects on his time in Seltsam and decides to go back for Johnny. He tells Johnny that if he isn't going to help, he shouldn't be in Seltsam. Sam reminds Johnny of himself. He says he always comes to town during the summer to see his girlfriend, who is long dead and doesn't rise from her grave. Because they both died on a bad note, the earth won't let him have his eternal rest. So he is guilty of fighting with her.

  • Johnny stays and the town grows used to him and accepts him. They allow him to stay full-time, and Johnny now has a family. Sam decides to stay to hang with his sister, Quentin and (though he doesn't announce it) his secret girlfriend Angela. He has overcome his guilt from Arthur through Johnny.
