William Berkeley - I would like to make a peace treaty with the Native Americans and protect your land.
DEAL
We agree to your treaty.
Planter/farmers - you need to get those Native Americans out of here! We want to be able to have our own land and not come into conflict with them!
I refuse it! I will not go against them or the treaty.
Susquehanock Tribe
Nathaniel Bacon and his group alongside the Occaneechi Tribe ended up killing most of the men, women and children in the village Susquehanock, in retaliation of Berkeley.
Nathaniel Bacon and his group + Occaneechi Tribe
A few months later after more drama, Bacon and his 200-500 men burned down the colonial capital grounds of Jamestown.
During the burning of Jamestown, Berkeley escaped across the river.
Not long after, Bacon passed away from dysentery and Berkeley came back into power.
As a result of Bacon's Rebellion, Berkeley hastened the hardening of racial lines associated with slavery so thatthe poor would be less driven to retaliate/work together.
