- Persephone was the daughter of Demeter and Zeus. She was known for her beauty. Everyone loved her daughter so much, her mom too,so she kept all men away from her.
- One day she going out , she decided to stay back and pick some flowers for Demeter.

- Then, Hades-God of the underworld fell in love when he saw Persephone, he decided that to that her become his Queen.
- Hades took Persephone to the underworld and made her become his queen,she was sadand crying everyday,so he let her eat a few seeds of the pomegranate fruit,which eaterwould miss life in the Underworld

- Demeter weped greatly. Because of this, all the crops in the land died. Zeus knew this couldn't continue and asked her to stop it, but she said that she wouldn'tuntil she got her daughterback

- Finally, Zeus gave in and formed a contract with Hades. For 2 periods of the year (summer and spring) did Persephone go with her mother, and for 2 periods of the year (winter and fall) did she go down with Hades.
- This is why crops prosper in summer and spring, and die in winter and fall. That is how the seasonscame to be.
