  • Mr. Kim Chiisdelicious
  • Welcome Dear Guests, to the incredible journey through the digestive system! I'll be leading you, in addition to Mr Kim Chiisdelicious and Ms. Jajang Myeon, on a fascinating tour from ingestion to digestion. So, grab your tickets and let's embark on Demeter together on this digestive adventure!

  • The Mouth: Gateway to digestion! Our tour begins in the bustling metropolis of the mouth where our food tourists first arrive. Once they are through the gate, mechanical digestion (chewing) causes the food to break down to form bolus. Starches begin digestion in the mouth when they are mixed with salivary amylase. The Esophagus: The downward slide! The trio passes the upper esophageal sphincter, slides down the esophagus, bypassing the vigilant lower esophageal sphincter. the journey is aided by the wave-like contractions called Peristalsis

  • upper esophageal sphincter
  • The Stomach: The Churning Cauldron! In the stomach, our food tourists are greeted with the churning of gastric juices. Carbs digestion is halted here. Gastrin is secreted which also causes the secretion of hydrochloric acid. The bolus mixes with hydrochloric acid and Pepsin, produced by the stomach wall, tackles the proteins into proteoses and peptones. The stomach's powerful acids and enzymes work diligently transforming the trio into a semi-liquid chyme, ready for the next phase of the journey. Peristalsis moves the chyme to the pyloric sphincter.

  • hepatic ducts
  • The Small Intestine: The Absorption Alley! As we enter the small intestine, it's all about absorption. The duodenum secretes secretin and CCK which stimulates the secretion of more digestive juices. This secretion is controlled by the sphincter of Oddi. Bile, produced in the liver and stored in the gall bladder, enters the duodenum through the common bile duct and emulsifies fats from the trio. The common bile duct connects the cystic and hepatic ducts. Pancreatic juices and enzymes from the pancreatic duct join the fray, neutralizing chyme using bicarbonate juices and digesting the macronutrients.

  • ileum
  • jejunum
  • At the jejunum, the small intestine, lined with villi, eagerly absorbs nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, carbs, fats, proteins, and water from our food tourists. The ileum absorbs any leftover nutrients. It's a long and winding road, but our food tourists are transformed, leaving only waste behind.
  • The Large Intestine: The Final Stretch! Our tour is nearing its end as enters the large intestine. The absorbed nutrients are transported to the liver where they are processed and stored. The ileum meets with the entrance to the large intestine (cecum) at a gate called the ileocecal sphincter. At the large intestine, water is reclaimed, and the remaining waste (indigestible fibers) is prepared for its final departure. It's a slower pace, allowing for a thorough process before reaching the last stop - the rectum.
  • transverse colon
  • ascending colon
  • descending colon
  • rectum
  • anus
  • .
  • anal sphincter
  • The Rectum and Anus: The Farewell Lounge! The Rectum serves as a farewell lounge for our digested trio tourists, now transformed into waste and stored as feces. When the time is right, the anal sphincters - the gatekeepers- control the release of feces. The internal sphincter operates involuntarily until the body signals for its release, while the external sphincter provides voluntary control over the timing of feces expulsion. Our food tourists - in the form of elimination - make their grand exit through the Anus. It is a dignified farewell, marking the end of a remarkable journey.
  • Thank you for joining me on this digestive tour. A special thanks to our food tourists, Mr. Kim Chisidelicious and Ms. Jajang Myeon. We hope you've enjoyed this inside look at the amazing digestive process that nourishes our bodies. Until next time, keep digesting and be merry!!!
