- While George and Lennie were working, they spotted 2 rabbits coming out of their dens. The rabbits made Lennie happy because Lennie loves rabbits. Lennie also likes mice and anything that is soft. However, George thought they were a distraction and told Lennie to leave them alone and go back to work. This made Lennie sad.
- The woman In red, Curly's wife, is mad at Crooks for talking back to her. She kept saying that if he kept talking she would have him lynched. Crooks is trying to tell her that her sister is injured in the barn. The men think Lennie did it but he knows he didn't do anything wrong. She wasn't giving Crooks a chance to talk.
- Crooks is warning Lennie that Curly and his crew are looking for him. Crooks is trying to get Lennie to leave so he doesn't get killed or hurt by them. Crooks tells Lennie about a special place he knows near the river. Crooks packs a bag for Lennie and gives him some savings to help him get on his foot. Lennie leaves the ranch and no one ever sees him again.
