  • In his story "Harrison Bergeron," Kurt Vonnegut makes the point that society may be doomed to living a life where everyone is expected be unproductive. He introduces a world far into the future where members are handicapped to performing at a certain level, remaining equal. This means that people cannot outperform each other, and people like Harrison Bergeron are considered threats simply because they are nothing like the poor performing individuals thag make up society. Because this is not allowed, Harrison amd those he influenced into being their true selfs are killed. Though this may not be an actual death if applied to a literal world, it instead represents death to creativity and emphasizes that if other individuals feel as though they lack in areas, those who don't feel such a way or instead feel confident in their abilities will be judged and shamed simply because they do not fit into what is normal.
