Testo Storyboard

  • One girl admitted to smoking, and TLO did not. This made the principaltake her purse and search it.
  • Were you two smoking in the bathroom?
  • She was but not me
  • I need to search your purse. Please hand it over
  • Yes, I was..
  • This search was reasonable though because she was caught smoking in the bathroom with another student which was witnessed by another teacher .
  • The school officers searched my purse without my permission which against the Fourth Amendment.
  • T.L.O. is pronounced guilty, the search was reasonable and her rights weren’t violated. The suspicion of smoking in the bathroom witnessed by a teacher made it reasonable for the search by school officers. So this meansher rights weren’t violated. The further search of her purse was also reasonable because of the marijuana found, so the officers had to make sure there were no drugs. This was all reasonable under the consequences of this situation.
  • TLO is found guilty by a 6-3 vote in Supreme Court, also found as a delinquent, and she will have to serve 1 year probation.
  • SUPREME COURT
  • SUPREME COURT
  • I disagree as well, for I think that the new standard of the Court's "reasonable suspicion" is inappropriate. I think that for a search to be reasonable, the student has to be violating the law or causing disruption of school or educational process. I believe that the smoking in the bathroom was uncalled for but not needed to search this young ladies purse without her permission
  • I disagree, for the Fourth Amendment was violated since the amendment says,“no Warrants shall issue but upon probable cause.” This means that w/o probable cause, the search is based just on reasonable suspicion, are unreasonable, so this violates the Fourth Amendment.
  • SUPREME COURT
  • THIS IS NOT FAIR !. MY RIGHTS HAVE BEEN VIOLATED
  • The overall choice that was decided by the Supreme Court was unfair but that's how things are. The law now requires officers/teachers to have a reasonable suspicion and searches up to the reason you have violated the school rule or the law.
