- this scene relates to conflict/isolation because some time late at night at the beginning of the story, as Ponyboy was walking home alone coming from the movies, a blue mustang (the socs) pulled up and jumped him. Chapter1 pg5-6 "the socs jumped me up and left me lying there, gasping- I laid there and wondered what is happening. people were jumping over me and running by me and I was too dazed to figure it out."
- this scene correlates to violence and isolation because it is when Ponyboy runs away from home and meets up with Johnny. They go to a park where later on blue mustang circles the place, in where the socs come out and beat them up, putting ponyboys head underwater, drowning him. "when a sudden blast from a car horn made us both jump. The blue mustang was circling the park slowly." pg55"the soc caught my arm and twisted it behind my back, and shoved my face into the fountain." pg 56
- this scene also links to violence because this is where johnny cade in defense kills one of the socs (bob) in order to save his friend Ponyboy."I killed him," he said slowly. " I killed that boy." page 56 "They were drowning you, Pony. They might have killed you." pg57
- Pony and Johnny end up going to Dally for help. He gives them a change of clothes, a strap (gun), and 50 dollars.page-60-61"here" he handed us a gun and a roll of bills. Here are fifty bucks"-60"Dally handed me a shirt about sixty-million sizes too big."-61
- Johnny and Ponyboy hideout in an abandoned church out of town from Dally's commands. A little bit after Johnny decides to turn himself in. As dally picks them up they see the church on fire. They go and try to save the kids that are inside of there as they believe they had started it with a drop of cigarette. "I bet we started it," I said to Johnny. "We must have dropped a lighted cigarette or something." "I wasn't about to go through that flaming door, so I slammed a big rock through a window and pulled myself in." pg91
- As Dally came, Ponyboy and Johnny learn that a rumble is scheduled for the following night at a vacant lot."They could just as easily have been going to the movies as to a rumble. that's why people don't ever think to blame the Socs and are always ready to jump on us." page 141. This shows that the Socs and Greasers have been doing rumbles for some time and have been fighting which helps the theme, which is violence.
