- People in Ancient Egypt mummified their pharaohs to preserve them.
- We are going to go through the steps of mummification. Here are the steps in their simplest form.
- First take out the organs. This is done by making one incision on the side of the body. They take all of the organs except for the heart and put them in canopic jars. To take out the brain they stick a hook up the pharaoh's nose and pull the brain out.
- Next they salt and season the body. They put the salt to dry out the body and the seasoning to make it smell better. They wait 40 days and then wash the body. Then they repeat the process.
- They then wrap the body with thin cloth 20 times. They put charms in each layer of the wrapping. There is a man who wears an Anubis head and prays over the body.
- The last and final thing is to put the mummy in the sarcophagus and paint the face of the sarcophagus to look like the person.
