The Rise of Lenin, The Bolsheviks & The October Revolution
Many peasants in Russia were serfs who couldn't afford land after they were freed in 1861, so they were forced to work in agriculture. They would soon revolt due to little pay, poor living/working conditions and the little care for their safety.
Civil War in Russia
In March 1917 women textile workers rioted over shortages of bread and fuel. At first soldiers shot rioters but soon after joined the protesters side and started shooting at their commanding officers. After the protest became a general uprising and forcing Czar Nicholas II to give up his throne. Soon after the government became very weak.
Red Terror
The October revolution was when the Bolsheviks, led by Lenin, rose to power. Lenin would be the first leader of the Soviet Union, the worlds first communist state.
The Death of Lenin and the Rise of Stalin
Shortly after the Bolsheviks took power a civl war broke out in Russia. The Red Army (communists) and the White Army (pro-imperialists) fought to overthrow the Soviet government. Due to the fact that the Red Army was more organized they won the cicil war defeating the White Army and their allies (France, Britain, the US and Japan)
The Red Terror was a campaign of mass killings, torture, and oppression on everyone who was against the Bolsheviks from 1918 to 1922. The total number of people killed range between 50,000 to 140,000 to over one and half million.
Lenin died from the last of his many strokes due to the bullet that was lodged in his neck from an attempted assassination. Before Lenin's death he warned the people of Stalins unlimited authority in his hands and suggested they thinks about a way to removing him from the post before he he tried to take too much from them.
