  • A Last Attempt At Peace
  • Around 20 to 30 percent of Americans were Loyalists and 40 to 50 percent of Americans were Patriots. Although most Native and African Americans were part of the Loyalists which are the people on the left side of the picture.
  • The End of the War
  • France and Spain both decided to give the Americans useful things like food, supplies, troops, along with military experience. They were then provided with all those items for free because Spain and France had felt thoughtful at the moment most likely.
  • The Treaty of Paris 1783
  • The Olive Branch Petition had asked the king to restore peace, the king then rejected the petition. The British Navy got sent to block the American ships from leaving ports.
  • The Costs of the War
  • Most of the fighting had taken place in Virginia by 1781. Along, the last major battle of the American Revolution is the Battle of Yorktown. But American and French troops bombarded the British which makes them surrender. Later on, British leaders began to negotiate a peace treaty.
  • The Treaty of Paris was the reason that the Revolutionary War had officially ended. The grey area on the map above was claimed by Spain and Russia, orange places were claimed by the U.S. and Great Britain. Lastly, purple is claimed by U.S. and Spain.
  • 25,700 Americans died in the war, 1.400 remained missing, 8,200 were wounded at the end of the war. Along with, multiple Loyalists losing their property, the ones that survived the war left the army with basically no money. The national debt at the end was $27 million.
