- Tris takes her Aptitude test and finds out that she has an aptitude for Abnegation, Erudite, and Dauntless, which means she is Divergent but she can't tell anyone.
- At the choosing ceremony Tris decides to join Dauntless even though it means leaving her parents.
- Tris ranked first at the end of Dauntless initiation.
- The Dauntless are injected with a serum that puts them in a simulation where they can be controlled. The serum doesn't work on the Divergent so Tris and Tobias have to act. The Dauntless kill almost all of the Abnegation leaders while under the simulation. Tobias is discovered as Divergent and injected with a different serum and sent to the control room to work the simulation.
- Tris finds her dad, brother and Marcus and goes back to Dauntless headquarters to get Tobias and destroy the simulation data.
- Tris gets the data simulation but doesn't destroy it yet. Tris, Tobias, Marcus, Caleb and Peter (who they took prisoner at the Dauntless headquarters) leave the city and go to the Amity headquarters where they will be safe for now.
