Long ago there was no people. no trees, no plants on the land. Guthi-Guthi, the spirit of an ancestral being, lived in the sky.
Weowie creates streams, waterholes and valleys
Guthi-guthi came down to create the land for the people. He put one foot on Gunderbooka Mountain and the other on Mount Grenfell. He could see that the land was bare and lacked water and vegetation.

Weowie the water serpent came out from the mountain that he was trapped in.
Tribes and sub-groups of the country
Weowie made waterholes and streams and valleys in the land.
Old Pundu the cod also dragged the water down from the north, creating the Darling River as we know it today.
The first two tribes in the country were Eaglehawk and Crow. From these two tribes, the Ngiyaampaa and the Barkandji people, as well as many other sub-groups, were formed .
