Laius and Jocasta were the rulers of Thebes. They heard a prophecy that their son will be cursed to kill his father and marry his mother. They tie his feet together and sent him in the woods to die. He was found by the rulers of Corinth(Polybus and Merope), and they raised him as their own child.
Oedipus starts to think that Polybus and Merope are not his real parents, so he visits and oracle and it tell him the same prophecy his parents heard. He tried to avoid his faith and leave Corinth, but on the way out he gets into a fight with a man which he kills.
Oedipus arrives in Thebes, he defeats the Sphinx, who plagues the city with her difficult riddle. After this he becomes kings and marries the queen, Jocasta.
Oedipus therefore inherits the throne and marries Queen Jacosta, fulfilling the rest of the prophecy. Together they have 4 children: 2 (Antigone and Ismene) and 2 sons (Eteocles and Polynices).
Many years later, through a series of events, the truth is discovered that Oedipus unknowingly killed his birth father and married his mother.
Queen Jocasta commits suicide by hanging herself once she finds out. When Oedipus finds her, he takes a pin from the gown she is wearing and stabs his own two eyes out in distress.
