- The adult pigs had too many offspring which caused there to be too many pigs in this population. They all look similar and are hard to tell apart. They have good resources and are able to have good fitness.
- Pigs With Teeth Survive
- When the parents of some pigs had offspring, two pigs didn't look the same as the others. The genes of the offspring had a mutation that caused it to have dinosaur teeth. This caused the population to have variation. The mutation is neutral and doesn't have an effect on the pigs life.
- Pigs With Teeth Reproduce
- When a farm is built on the pig's land, it causes them to have to move to the forest and adapt to the new environment. In this new environment, there are bears that try to eat the pigs. The pigs without the mutation are easy targets and are eaten faster. The pigs with the mutation are able to fight off the bears and are better adapted to this environment.
- Number of Pigs With Teeth Increases
- The pigs with the mutation have an advantage over the ones without it. They are favored by natural selection and are able to survive and reproduce, giving them better fitness. The pigs without the mutation are not favored by natural selection and have a harder time surviving and reproducing. Therefore, their fitness is worse.
- Since the pigs with the mutation are favored by natural selection, they are able to reproduce and pass down their genes. There are not many pigs without the mutation because they are not favored by natural selection. The few that survived are able to reproduce but their genes are less frequent and only a few of the offspring inherit them.
- The dino teeth gene is more frequent. It has been passed down from generation to generation because it is favored by natural selection. This gene has caused this population of pigs to evolve. The pig teeth gene is less frequent because it not favored by natural selection. There are more mutated pigs in the population than pigs without the mutation.
