- Exposition: Josh and JB are brothers who love basketball. They are twins but they look different. Josh has dreadlocks and JB is bald.
- Rising Action: JB gets a girlfriend and starts to spend less time with Josh. Josh lost a bet and JB, instead of cutting one lock, cut five locks. After his mom saw him, she made him cut off the rest of his hair.
- Climax: After being late to his basketball game because the cops pulled over on the way, Josh gets benched for the first half of the game. When he is let in the game, he gets annoyed at JB and smashes the ball at his face, and his mom suspended him from the team.
- Falling Action: After Josh's dad falls into a coma from a myocardial infarction, Josh doesn't think his dad will survive. However, he does, but during the championship game, his dad suffers from a second heart attack, and dies from it.
- Resolution: JB hands Josh their father's championship ring, and they shoot 50 free throws in a row for their father.
- The theme of The Crossover is that family is important. Josh's mom worried that Josh's dad would die from the heart attack so she went to check on him. JB also was in tears when his dad passed.
