  • 400 BCE
  • Look he can walk!
  • ... or saviour.
  • You will be a king one day, son.
  • ❤️
  • In 400 BCE, Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism was born as a prince in a small Hindu kingdom. Apparently the newborn Buddha walked immediately, wherever he walked, each step he took, a lotus flower would appear.
  • A wise man predicted that this young boy would either become a great king or saviour. He would be able to heal all who are suffering and would follow the spiritual path of life. His father, Suddhodana, also wanted him to become a king, so he protected his son from all suffering.
  • Enlightenment
  • At the age of 16 Siddhartha Gautama was married and was on his journey to achieve political leadership. This journey is what revealed to him suffering and which also led to the creation of Buddhism.
  • At the age of 35 Siddhartha Gautama gave his first sermon which was called the “Dharmachakra” of the Wheel of Dharma which was about human life and existence. It also illustrates what one must do in order to release themselves from suffering and reach enlightenment.
  • The Buddha kept teaching for 45 years through stories. However, his teachings were written 400 years after by his followers. He witnessed his first suffering when he saw an ill old man who was in great pain. He then saw a calm holy man and was interested in how calm he was. So he left his family to become a religious ascetic to look for the answers of suffering.
  • Siddhartha Gautama died at the age of 80 from dysentery. His teachings and journey will forever be honoured and remembered all throughout the world.
