- At the beginning of the chapter, Fiona and Jonas say goodbye to each other before going to their first day of training.
- Goodbye
- Then Jonas headed around the building towards the doors of the annex.
- When he entered, the female attendant who was there stood up by Jonas's presence. They had a quick conversation -about why the door to the next room was locked, since no doors in the community were locked- before Jonas walked to the next room.
- When Jonas walked to the room, he found himself in a very big living area with luxurious furniture and the old man he saw next to the Elders in The Ceremony of Twelve. They talked for a while and the man told Jonas about the job but eventually he started to talk with words that Jonas didn't know.
- The man told Jonas to lie face down in the bed and take his tunic off so he can show him the memory of the words he didn't understand. But no without turning the speaker off first, which Jonas found shocking because no one in the community was allowed to do it.
