The narrator checks on the old man every night with such "skill and precision" and is kinder to him than ever before he kills him
Falling Action
On one night the narrator accidentally chuckles causing the old man to wake. The darkness of the night hid the narrator but soon he put a small beam of light directly on the eye causing the old man's heart to beat loudly.
Resolution
The narrator then kills the old man and takes precautions getting rid of the evidence. The narrator chops up the body, leaving no blood behind, and hides it within planks on the floor.
The police come over for the neighbors heard a loud scream. The narrator deals with them calmly. The narrator leads them to the room where the body is hidden and lets them sit there.
Suddenly, the narrator starts hearing a heart pumping . It slowly grows louder despite their effort to ignore it. It makes the narrator go crazy and expose his crime.
