- The magistrate was chosen by a lottery system for a one year term. Sometimes they would decide to send the case to court, and sometimes they would decide to give the defendant a fine.
- This case will go to trial.

- Males over 30 years old could be on jury. There were usually over 500 people, chosen by lottery. They voted to decide if the defendant was innocent or guilty.
