  • Back in 1789, France had all lived under an Absolute Monarch whose name was King Louis XVIII. During this time, France was going through a lot of problems such as a lot of taxes, food shortages, and a deficit amount of money.
  • Yes, Sir.
  • You will live under my rules and command.
  • Absolute Monarchy
  • Moving forward, people started getting tired by how King Louis was treating them. Things such as high taxes and unfair treatments towards the poor were fueling people's urge to rebel. That is when the French Revolution began to rise.
  • Rise of a Revolution
  • We don't like the way you treat us.
  • Split of Power
  • To continue, in 1791, a national assembly was held, this was called the Constitution of 1791. Basically, in this assembly, they were able to make it so power was split so the King had power but there was also a government who had power. If King Louis had denied, a war would have happened.

  • What happened next, the people of France had held a another National Convention. In this convention, they had agreed that they still didn't have enough power, so they decided to rebel. Anyone that they thought were against them in this revolution, they would execute them. 
  • Don't dare go against us.
  • After the Reign of terror, A man by the name of Napoleon basically took over France. Unlike King Louis, he actually liked the idea of people self governing themselves. He set up a new code which was called the "Napoleonic Code" which allowed people to self-govern themselves. Napoleon ended up making a mistake one day and started the Peninsular war losing horribly.

  • Finally, the last thing that had happened after Napoleon's passing, was the Congress of Vienna. The Congress of Vienna was a long-term peace treaty/legitimacy for all of Europe. France finally reached the point where it had a balance of power. It started from an absolute Monarch under King Louis XVIII's command to achieving peace.
  • Peace at last.
