- Immigrants, women, minorities, like us, had the hardship of working in dangerous work conditions. We had to deal w/ fires poorly lit rooms while dealing w/ dangerous machinery, which can cause the fires and injury.
- We also had to deal w/ poor ventilation even dying from it because of all the smoke from the cigars people smoked inside, since they couldn't smoke outside due to the locked doors, which are also threatening.
- In sweatshops, where mostly us women worked, the conditions were still dark, hot, dangerous, and also unfair. We were working 12 hours a day 6 days a week. This became more of a problem when they realized these industries were contributing to child labor. Which was later put to rest in 1938.
- They really worked me too! I was only 12. I barely went to school and instead went to work, to help my poor family. My bosses didn't care about my cuts or bruises, only that I was working.
- Then this man, Samuel Gompers, had then put a stop to a lot of the bad working conditions and founded the union of "American Federation Labor".
- This allowed us to get higher wages, better conditions, and shorter work days. This helped us be better at our work and even have time to do other things.
