Testo Storyboard

  • I get pumped through the right atrium, stored in the right ventricle, and then sent out through the pulmonary artery to the lungs. The arteries have a narrow opening, which means that me, the white blood cells, and the platelets are all quite close together. They have a large ring of muscle though.
  • Hello, I am a red blood cell! Here you can follow my journey around the human body.
  • As I come in from the body, my blood is de-oxygenated, so I enter the right part of the heart.
  • I enter the left side of the heart through the pulmonary veins, where I am stored in the left atrium before being pumped. The veins have a larger opening, but thinner walls, as well as valves to stop us from going backwards to places where we shouldn't be.
  • Now I have been oxygenated in the lungs, so I go back to the heart - except the left side, so I can be pumped to the body through the aorta.
  • My journey begins with me going up to the head and shoulders, where I again get de-oxygenated and go to the heart. Next time, however, I go down to the small intestine.
  • Here in the small intestine, I spread oxygenated blood throughout - I enter the small intestine through the intestinal artery. Then, I go up to the liver through the hepatic portal vein - if I was taking a more direct route, I would go through the hepatic artery. After this, I'm all de-oxygenated, so I go up the vena cava back to the heart to be re-oxygenated. But my journey doesn't end here - there's more!
  • The next time I get pumped around the body, I might go all the way down the aorta, through the renal artery, to the kidneys, and then out again through the renal vein. Yet another way I can go, I can go down to the femoral artery, to the legs, and then out through the femoral vein and back up to the right atrium. There you have it - my journey!
