- BARGAINING
- I came up with a new bargain with God: “If you make Jeffrey better, I won’t go to this dance.”
- Steven was in denial when he was told that Jeffrey may have cancer. He refused to believe that Jeffrey could have a chance of dying.
- DEPRESSION
- If a boy has 60 tic-tac's, but doesn't want to run out, how many should he eat per class?
- Steven began to feel the anger stage of grief after his father started to practically ignore his existence.
- ACCEPTANCE
- You may be right, little man. We are due for a cheery, right about now. But she’s looking a bit nervous; I’ll bet you a buck she’s gonna be a frowner.
- Steven begins bargaining with God that if he heals Jeffrey, he'll give up something he wants to do.
- Summary
- You can tell Steven starts to experience the stage of depression because he begins to isolate and not care about his class work.
- Steven begins going through the acceptance phase when he start to ignore the cancer and try to start cheering Jeffrey up instead.
- Steven had gone through all 5 stages of grief. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptence.
