" He had the eye of a vulture --a pale blue eye, with a film over it " Poe (page 1) The narrator insists that he is not crazy because of his calm and measured actions, but he fears the old man's pale blue eyes are evil. Every night he would go to the old man's apartment and observe him while he's asleep. The mornings after he would act like everything was normal and would continue this behaviour for a whole week.

"The old man was dead. I removed the bed and examined the corpse " Poe (page 3)After that whole week of watching the old man he finally decides to take action, he ran inside the old man's room. The old man woke up crying out "who's there?" then the narrator waited for awhile. He lifted the bed over top of him, the sound of his heart was muffled for a few minutes then the old man was dead. The narrator then removes the bed and examines the corpse. He dismembers the body and hides the body parts underneath the floorboards in the bedroom, and leaves no signs of blood behind.

"No doubt I now grew very pale; --but I talked more fluently, and with a heightened voice" (Poe 3).The neighbor next had called the cops from hearing the old man shriek. The cops show up the narrator leads the cops into the room without acting suspicious. They start talking about the scene of the crime and the cops suspects nothing. The narrator was starting to feel pale and wishing the cops would leave his head starts to ache and his ears starts to ring. The ringing starts to get more distinct it continues to get more distinct.
