- John Adams wanted to get back home because Abigail; his wife, was needing help with the farm and also he wanted to go home because he was never getting any thing by any thing he did.

- Congress needed to make the declaration of independence from Great Britain, to get help winning the war, so a committee to consider the tone and the nature of the document was convened.
- July 4th
- John Adams argued with John Dickinson in the Congress debate about independence, to break from both Parliament and King George III.
- If we mean to have heroes, statesmen, and philosophers, we should have learned women.
- There was a surprise attack! A flotilla of British boats had sailed into New York Harbor!
- Finally, all of Congress endorsed THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE!
- John gave Abigail an opening and she had no problem expounding her favorite topic...women in the new nation.
